Jets want to trade Abraham to Seattle (AP)

The New York Jets want to send disgruntled defensive end John Abraham to the Seattle Seahawks. But Abraham prefers Atlanta. A person familiar with the negotiations, who didn't want to be identified because the talks were ongoing, said Friday the Seahawks have presented the best trade package for Abraham: a first-round pick.

Abraham finally traded to Falcons (AP)

John Abraham finally got what he wanted Tuesday night when the Jets traded the Pro Bowl defensive end to the Atlanta Falcons in a three-way deal with Denver. The Broncos had to get involved for the much-anticipated trade to finally take place. Denver and Atlanta swapped No. 1 picks, with the Broncos getting the 15th overall selection and the Falcons getting pick 29.

Jets trade for Ramsey (AP)

The New York Jets obtained quarterback Patrick Ramsey from the Washington Redskins on Friday for a sixth-round pick in next month's draft, giving them insurance if Chad Pennington is slow to recover from his second shoulder injury in two years. Meanwhile, the NFL acted on behalf of the Seattle Seahawks, requesting that Minnesota's offer to All-Pro guard Steve Hutchinson go to arbitration.

Jets GM positive about moves made during free agency (AP)

Now that the Jets have two first-round picks, they might consider using them to make a trade in the draft next month. Though general manager Mike Tannenbaum wouldn't discuss the team's strategy heading into the draft, he said the organization has added flexibility with two No. 1s. The Jets have the No.

New York Jets Strategy and Personnel

TEAM NEEDS 1. Quarterback: Chad Pennington is spectacularly iffy with a surgically repaired shoulder. The Jets traded for Redskins backup Patrick Ramsey to compete with Pennington for the starting job, but they still need to draft or trade for a young quarterback they can build with over the next several seasons. 2. Offensive line: It's undersized right now and needs to get younger.

New York Jets Notes, Quotes

--New Jets DE Kimo von Oelhoffen could be responsible for a potential rules change. Atlanta general manager Rich McKay, co-chairman of the NFL competition committee, said defensive players will be told they must make an effort to avoid hitting quarterbacks in the legs to avoid serious injuries, such as the hit that then-Steeler von Oelhoffen delivered on Cincinnati's Carson Palmer in the playoffs. Von Oelhoffen rolled into Palmer's left knee and left Palmer with torn ligaments.

New York Jets Inside Slant

After much negotiation, the John Abraham Era finally came to a close this week. Of course, those negotiations by the Jets weren't with Abraham and his agents, but rather with other teams interested in the defensive end's services. After rejecting offers from both Denver and Seattle, the Jets finally entered into a three-way trade with the Broncos and Atlanta.

New York Jets

The New York Jets are a professional American football team based in the New York City metropolitan area. The team plays its home games in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and is headquartered and trains in Hempstead, New York on Long Island. They currently belong to the Eastern Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL).

Originally called the New York Titans, the team began play in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League. The club was renamed the "Jets" after Sonny Werblin bought the team in 1963. The Jets then joined the NFL as part of the AFL-NFL Merger.

The Jets hold the distinction of being the first AFL team to defeat an NFL club in an AFL-NFL World Championship Game when they defeated the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III.
